Fondé en 1975, l'Orchestre, qui a reçu en 2005 une Victoire d'honneur pour l'ensemble de son travail, est aujourd'hui dirigé par Benjamin Levy ; il succède à Wolfgang Doerner (2013-2016) et Philippe Bender (1976-2013).
